Being an observer is an important part of being an artist. I hold the thrill of observing nature and capturing the feeling of is essence on canvass, as the most rewarding aspect of being an artist, because it is something that others can enjoy.
In my collection of landscapes I employ desert images to create works that recall a bold emotion rather than a subtle memory of an actual place; places of fantasy dwelling in the mind and heart. I use distinct images of the Southwest Desert - mountains, cacti, earth, sky, etc - to depict a mood, rather than an actual place. Through bold colors of passion and simultaneous grays of loneliness, familiar yet vague recollections of places seen but never visited, convey moments we all have experienced that call out to the heart.
Staying still to connect, staying open to listen.
My free use of brilliant colors has been likened to the Fauves of the 1920's French Movement. I have solidly been influenced by the European expressionists who, fleeting thee present moment, would reach into their subconscious and place it onto the canvass.
Success is a word with many interpretations. In my belief a composition is successful if it conveys some sense of mystery, a feeling of spontaneity, an energetic surface and radiates charming grace.
